This past weekend, Persist Brooklyn cohosted a virtual ranked choice voting training with Strategy for Black Lives, Indivisible Nation Brooklyn, South Central Brooklyn United for Progress, Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats, Brooklyn Young Democrats, and WHARR (Womxn's Health and Reproductive Rights). Now you can watch this training from the experts at Rank The Vote NYC to find out how best to use all 5 slots on your ballot.
Our events coming up this week include the return of our study group, a newly expanded Media & Democracy working group, and our final Looking Local Happy Hour of the 2021 NYC primaries. It's a season of closing chapters and beginning new ones and we hope you'll join us! Our study group this week is a special session in partnership with Hand in Hand to discuss the growing population of aging Americans, and the crucial role that care work will play in the coming decades. We will discuss "The Age of Dignity: Preparing for the Elder Boom in a Changing America," by Ai-jen Poo, Executive Director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance (and if you can't get the book in time, you can check out Ai-jen's podcast or TED Talk). All are welcome to join, find all the info here. Enjoy the ️☀️, Zena (she/her)

Persist Brooklyn is excited to partner with Hand in Hand for a discussion about the growing population of aging Americans, and the crucial role that care work will play in the coming decades.
To prepare, we recommend reading "The Age of Dignity: Preparing for the Elder Boom in a Changing America", by Ai-jen Poo, Executive Director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance. All are welcome! Check out tiny.cc/pbk-studygroup for more details about the event and other discussion sources.
THURS MAY 27th 7-8:30 PM ET: Media & Democracy Working Group
JOIN the “Media and Democracy” working group to better understand and respond to the factors that influence public opinion, voters and democracy. Note regular group meetings will be moving to every other Monday at 7pm starting June 7.
SAT MAY 29th 10AM-1PM ET: Day of Action for Crystal Hudson (CD-35)!
JOIN #TeamCrystal to talk to our neighbors about why she is the best choice for District 35! After the shift, we will have a volunteer social from 1:00 to 2:30PM. And if Saturday doesn't work for you, we encourage you to find a canvassing or phone banking shift that fits your schedule here.
SAT MAY 29th 5-7 PM ET: Looking Local Happy Hour with Pearlene Fields (Brooklyn Borough President) and Edwin Raymond (CD-40)
JOIN US online with other politically-engaged Brooklynites to chat with Pearlene Fields (Brooklyn Borough President) and Edwin Raymond (CD-40) about their races and visions for our city government. We'll hear a little about their candidacies before diving into an informal Q&A — come with your questions to ask and maybe a beverage!
*Please note Persist Brooklyn has no plans to endorse in either City Council District 40 or Brooklyn Borough President races at this time.

On your own schedule: Get out the vote for Shahana Hanif (CD-39)!
